How to Use the Greenland Space Science Symposium Materials
Do your students see themselves as scientists? Do they understand "real-world" connections to what they learn in classes? One of our daily challenges, as educators, is to help students model the curiosity and inquisitive nature of scientists.
The Greenland Space Science Symposium materials help you "link" your students to current research and an international group of space scientists. The lesson plan builds upon interviews with scientists as primary sources. While viewing the interview videos, students "connect" with space scientists to learn not only science, but to hear, from scientists, what it takes to be a scientist. Internet websites, vodcasts and podcasts expand and deepen the study of space weather, helping students understand the symbiotic relationship between the Sun and Earth. Many of the linked resources take you to educational materials developed by NASA to help educators stay in-tune with Earth and space science discoveries.
These educational resources also encourage written and oral communication through the web blogs. The original questions posed to the scientists were gathered from students, via daily emails.
Please use these resources to inspire and excite your students. And ... as you adjust and modify these plans, please consider sharing your own lesson plans and student work via the lesson plan builder and student corner.
