Nortel employees created a specialized computer learning laboratory for disabled residents of the Cottolengo Center in Barcelona, Spain. In a courtyard of the centuries-old haven, Nortel LearniT volunteers built a learning center from the ground up. From the the basic bricks and mortar to framing to building and painting the room to installing wiring and achieving connectivity, Nortel volunteers created new surroundings that open a new window on the learning world! Nortel LearniT 21st century e-Learning initiative The computer lab established in the Cottolengo school is the site of educational and personal empowerment as Nortel LearniT volunteers connect the community's adults and children with 21st century technology and learning styles. The Cottolengo outreach also illustrates Nortel capabilities in tailoring efforts, training, and technologies to the need of the community. Specialized handicapped access stations were built to accommodate wheelchairs. The hardware and peripherals at the stations, e.g., keyboards that have larger key sizes and distinguishing color combinations, were set up to assist the learners. The tiles and colors of the new physical facility were selected meld the new with the old as the expanded facility was nestled into the courtyard of the primary building.
