Participants learn how to integrate technology into all grades and subjects by modeling best practice as identified by national standards. Throughout the process, students learn and use lesson planning using the modified constructivist 6ES model adapted by Nortel LearniT: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate, Extend and Standards.

Curriki.org , a LearniT-TeachiT partner, serves as a collaborative resource for the 21st Century e-Teacher certification. Group members are encouraged to use the space as a place to collaborate with other participants and to share their projects, assignments and lessons.

Course 1 includes the introduction to lesson plans and research; the latest online and e-technology; collaborative tools -- wikis, Web 2.0, blogs, social networking...the full spectrum.

Course 2 is the technology skills segment, grounding and elevating students in the use of digital imaging, digital video, and audio and sound production as meaningful parts of lessons and learning.

Course 3 is the "launching" step where candidates demonstrate effective technology use in their lesson planning and delivery.

Preparing Educators to be 21st Century e-Teachers

An invitation to partner on piloting an innovative professional development program

If you're seriously seeking to revise or adopt a professional development program to transform teaching then we want to work with you. We are launching a new initiative through our community relations effort to help prepare educators to build their project-focused, technology enabled teaching skills.  21st Century e-Teacher is a free licensed offering that includes online courses that can be customized to meet local/regional training needs and criteria.  We are piloting the implementation of the first course with several University and school partners across North America. We are interested in building partnerships for adoption and suggest the following background information for your consideration.

WHO:  State or local educational authority or organization responsible for providing programs or services that support teachers in developing their skills to use technology in an integrated and effective manner in their classrooms. Interested institutions will designate participant(s) to be engaged in a pilot offering of Course 1 of 21st Century e-Teacher. Your representative(s) (may be a teacher or administrator) will be enrolled in a small cohort with other educators who will actively participate in the Course to evaluate it for adoption/distribution with your audience.

WHAT:  Course 1, which takes approximately 15 hours to complete, includes readings, video viewing, online discussions, and project assignments.

WHEN:  Fall 2009. Participants from various educational institutions will begin their coursework early in October with the final pilot concluding in mid-December. Pilot courses are estimated to run for 8 weeks.

HOW:  If interested in participating, please contact your local Nortel Representative or send an email to staff@LearniT-TeachiT.org. We are looking for a commitment to discuss how we can help your institution adopt and use the 21st Century e-Teacher initiative as an ongoing program to fully meet your professional development and ultimately, student achievement, goals.

WHY:  Because LearniT-TeachiT is committed to using the power of its technology expertise to solve important challenges in the community. By offering 21st Century e-Teacher and its rich resources free to you, we believe our goal is achievable: to help institutions transform their teaching capacities to meet the needs of today's hyperconnected world.
